According to statistics, it’s expected for number of people who have Alzheimer to be doubled in the next 20 years, studies are being held to know if the hypertension drugs which are taken by people with high blood pressure, can have positive effects on people who suffer from Alzheimer, so that they can manage to reduce the increasing number of people with this disease.
A new researches from a team in the University of Bristol, they tested drugs which have been used as a treatment for people with high blood pressure, and which specificity the types that reduce the activity of a biochemical pathway, these tests are made to know whether these medication can reduce the possibility of having Alzheimer disease and also another common type of dementia called vascular dementia.
In the state of blood pressure regulation a pathway is considered very important, and for more than 10 years, scientists knew about an existing relation between hypertension and dementia, but unfortunately don’t understand it very well.
Recent researches showed that that a type of signals produced by this pathway has bad effects on the brain of people who have Alzheimer, these negative effects are memory loss, lowered blood circulation in the brain, higher levels of brain inflammation and increased levels of brain cell death due to reduced oxygen circulation.
Alzheimer drugs works only for limited time to treat memory loss which works on balancing chemicals in the brain, and it’s usually limited because it doesn’t has the ability to stop the reasons causing the Alzheimer disease, that’s way it’s really important to find a medication which prevents Alzheimer from going on.
A research team took interesting notes about a large research made in UK, as they found that the risk of developing Alzheimer has been reduced to 50 per cent, and another 25 per cent of reducing the forming vascular dementia, in people over 60 who took one of two different groups of drugs which are special for the renin angiotensin system in the previous ten years, these results are compared to patients on any other types of hypertension drugs.
If these drugs are truly causal, it means that the benefits stated below are not just due to a blood pressure lowering effect but also can other factors like specific biochemical alterations, but a professor in the team doing these researches said that although their findings are interesting, they have to do the clinical trials to properly test our observations.
