Erectile dysfunction affects millions of men.

Although usually thought to be due to psychological problems, it is now known that 80 to 90 percent of impotence cases are caused by physical problems, usually related to the blood supply to the penis. There have been many advances in diagnosis and treatment of erectile dysfunction.

What are the risk factors for erectile dysfunction?
According to the National Institutes of Health (National Institutes of Health), erectile dysfunction is also a symptom of many disorders and diseases.

Among the direct risk factors for erectile dysfunction may include the following:

    Prostate Problems

    Type 2 Diabetes

Hypogonadism associated with various endocrine diseases

    Hypertension (high blood pressure)

    Vascular disease and vascular surgery

    High levels of blood cholesterol

Low levels of high density lipoproteins.

    Drugs.

    Neurogenic disorders.

Peyronie’s disease (distortion or curvature of the penis).

    Priapism (inflammation of the penis).

    Depression.

    The consumption of alcohol.

    The lack of sex education.

    Poor sexual techniques.

    Inadequate interpersonal relationships.

Many chronic diseases, especially renal failure and dialysis.

Smoking, which accentuates the effects of other risk factors such as vascular disease or hypertension.

Age appears to be an important risk factor and indirect, because it is associated with increased likelihood of direct risk factors, some of which are listed above.

It is estimated that about 5 percent of men become impotent by the age of 40 and 15 to 25 percent before 65 years of age. Accurate identification of risk factors and characterization are essential for prevention or treatment of erectile dysfunction.

What are the different types (and causes) of ED?

Here are some of the different types of impotence and its possible causes:
Premature ejaculation

Premature ejaculation is the inability to maintain an erection long enough for mutual satisfaction. Premature ejaculation is divided into primary and secondary schools:

Primary premature ejaculation

Primary premature ejaculation is a behavior that man learns at the start of sexual activity. Like any learned behavior, it can be modified. This form of primary PE is called psychogenic impotence (as opposed to organic or physical). (Congenital venous leak is a subset of primary PE, caused by a congenital venous leak in which the venous drainage system of the penis does not close properly.)

Secondary premature ejaculation

Secondary premature ejaculation occurs when, after many years of normal ejaculation, the duration of intercourse grows progressively shorter. Secondary PE is due to physical causes, usually involving the penile arteries or veins or both.
Performance Anxiety

Performance anxiety is a common form of psychogenic impotence, usually caused by stress or anxiety.
Depression

Depression is another cause of psychogenic impotence. Some antidepressant medications cause erectile dysfunction.

The UCDs are disorders in the ammonia metabolism in the liver, which are usually a congenital disease and a life threatening disease more often. when Neurotoxic ammonia can accumulates in the body, it has the possibility of causing serious damage to the nerves and also to the brain and can be a main cause of death according to severe the disease is.

The two centers in Canada : (the Alberta Children’s Hospital in Calgary and the Hospital for Sick Kids in Toronto) joining the other 12 medical centers in the united states which are involved in the trial.

A doctor from CEO and CSO of Cytonet Germany, said that achieving their goal in this trail program, which is to include 20 child in their trail program, also to try to present the serious conditions new effective treating option in the time that there is only one cure which is liver transplantation, they need to add more centers in Canada to maintain this goal.

A general overview about SELICA (Safety and Efficacy of Liver Cell Application) Study

To make studies about liver cell treatment, Cytonet has a cooperative work for several years with international metabolism and neonatal centers, the Cytonet therapy uses healthy and metabolically functional human hepatocytes for infusion to treat the metabolism disorder. When obtaining healthy cells (which are maintained from U.S. organ procurement organizations) from donated livers and not suitable for transplant, these donated livers will be isolated and have complex processing, then they are infused into the hepatic portal vein over six days.

In July last year, the clinical testing was given the permission to complete with the trial testing in the SELICA III, also an analysis of a temporary results of currently going trial (SELICA V) in Germany which targets newborns with UCDs.

Finally the Cytonet has the honor to appreciate the assistance of the National Urea Cycle Disorders Foundation during the procession of this program.

Diabetes…the fastest growing chronic disease in the world, as around the world 220 million are approximately affected with it and in Australia 1.7 million person die from this disease becoming the sixth main cause of death in the country as it kills 1 out of 13 infected with this disease.

But when it comes to diabetes it’s not all about the numbers but also about the cost of treating patients as it is estimated to be 170$ billion for those with type 1 diabetes, and as stated could double to 340$ billion(a shocking cost), also the disease known as juvenile diabetes affect almost 10% of patients, the cost of this one is approximately 1$million for each person over his lifetime.

In Australia a professor who has an experience concerning this disease for more than 50 years, said that the numbers in Australia is very worrying and make Australia in the place of Finland back in 15 years ago, as the number for type 1 in Australia has became the double in the 20 years, while in Finland it was 50 person infected per 1000,000 under the age of 15 years.

In order to keep the blood glucose levels well balanced, patients of diabetes must inject themselves multiple time a day, even though compilations happen in 1patient out of 5 these complications called unaware hypoglycemia, but the problem is that these complications usually fails to trigger the secretion of epinephrine which is responsible for generating the symptoms of hypoglycemia that is suppose to give the patient a warning when the sugar levels have dropped.

Hypoglycemia is very dangerous as it is the reason for the death of 8% of patients beside many complications which due to this disease.

A potential cure for diabetic people is a transplantation surgery in which islets are taken from the pancreas of a deceased organ donor and transplanted into the patient in order to make the patients pancreas secrete more insulin, but the problem is that there is a high risk of rejection, also this transplant needs immuno-suppressant medications that cost about 250,000$, and sometimes have bad and serious effects.

So, duty to difficult procedures of the mentioned below surgery and the inquiries about its effectiveness, Prof. Elliot is supporting a break through novel cell implant treatment called DIABECELL® .

This new method of implanting aims to reduce the need for injections and constant observe of blood glucose levels as it helps to restore regulation of insulin to almost normal.

The company tried this test on special pigs (that has no viruses or bacteria) by performing a simple keyhole surgery, The heard was rescued from the remote Auckland islands and have effectively been in quarantine for the last 200 years.

A new plan is being set for purchasing medications in Peoria, Ariz., this plan will require people to give their fingerprints before buying a medication from pharmacies, as the Phoenix suburb is thinking seriously about setting a new rule which requires the users of highly-abused drugs like OxyContin and Percocet to give not only their fingerprints but also a video tape showing them when they take the medicine…, the main goal of this new rule and it’s procedures is to prevent abusers from making any kind of illegal purchases to medications, even they want take the fingerprints of people who buy medication to their family member, however the civil rights advocates stated that their new method is considered a bad violation on the rights of privacy to people.

In his statement upon this issue, the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU) said that the new decided law is not restricted to people who are suspected to use these medication in wrong ways, and also said that most of these people whose fingerprints will be taken, will never become suspected of criminal prosecution, in addition Arizona ACLU legal director Daniel Pochoda also stated in meeting of a pharmacy board that the aim from this law is to make pharmacies as “annexes for police stations” so that the police will ask the pharmacists to treat those customers as potential criminals.

But when it comes to pharmacists they also refuse to become a law officials, as a pharmacist who is a member in the pharmacy board, said that he doesn’t feel keen about noting patients taking chronic medications as abusers, and he also said that this is not what he was trained to do, although the officials do not agree with these pharmacists as the is a huge number which is growing day by day of abusers who usually take advantage of the regular non controlled system in pharmacies to get the dangerous, highly-addictive drugs, that is considered dangerous on the whole society due to their extreme side effects, and moths ago the Peoria Police Department warned people in a report about what they called a “huge black market” for OxyContin and other serious painkillers that is allegedly sweeping the nation, while others stated that the pharmaceutical industry should take some of the blame and responsibility as it gives highly-addictive drugs to patients in all conditions without control which makes people reliant on them.

According to statistics, it’s expected for number of people who have Alzheimer to be doubled in the next 20 years, studies are being held to know if the hypertension drugs which are taken by people with high blood pressure, can have positive effects on people who suffer from Alzheimer, so that they can manage to reduce the increasing number of people with this disease.

A new researches from a team in the University of Bristol, they tested drugs which have been used as a treatment for people with high blood pressure, and which specificity the types that reduce the activity of a biochemical pathway, these tests are made to know whether these medication can reduce the possibility of having Alzheimer disease and also another common type of dementia called vascular dementia.

In the state of blood pressure regulation a pathway is considered very important, and for more than 10 years, scientists knew about an existing relation between hypertension and dementia, but unfortunately don’t understand it very well.

Recent researches showed that that a type of signals produced by this pathway has bad effects on the brain of people who have Alzheimer, these negative effects are memory loss, lowered blood circulation in the brain, higher levels of brain inflammation and increased levels of brain cell death due to reduced oxygen circulation.

Alzheimer drugs works only for limited time to treat memory loss which works on balancing chemicals in the brain, and it’s usually limited because it doesn’t has the ability to stop the reasons causing the Alzheimer disease, that’s way it’s really important to find a medication which prevents Alzheimer from going on.

A research team took interesting notes about a large research made in UK, as they found that the risk of developing Alzheimer has been reduced to 50 per cent, and another 25 per cent of reducing the forming vascular dementia, in people over 60 who took one of two different groups of drugs which are special for the renin angiotensin system in the previous ten years, these results are compared to patients on any other types of hypertension drugs.

If these drugs are truly causal, it means that the benefits stated below are not just due to a blood pressure lowering effect but also can other factors like specific biochemical alterations, but a professor in the team doing these researches said that although their findings are interesting, they have to do the clinical trials to properly test our observations.
